Why Are Some Projector Screens So Expensive?

Posted: March 11th, 2009 | Author: JackPower | Filed under: All, News and Updates | Tags: , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

There different factors that determine why certain projector screens so inexpensive in comparison to others. This a questions the comes up quite regularly. Of course the answer varies depending on the projection screens that you’re using in the comparison. In addition to that, higher cost doesn’t always mean better ‘value’. For this example, let’s compare the Elite Spectrum Series (more expensive) to the Da-Lite (less expensive).

The Spectrum Series uses a vinyl based fabric versus a Fiberglass based fabric.  Although the image quality is the same, the Vinyl based fabric is thinner. The Spectrum series goes up and down via remote and does not include a standard wall switch. However, the wall switch can be purchased as an accessory. The Da-Lite screens are custom made in the USA, the Elite screens are made in China. The remote on the Da-Lite is infrared and has a range of approximately 30 feet. The Vmax screen from Elite includes an Infrared Remote and an RF remote (with greater range).  The Vmax2 series also includes a wall switch. You have the choice of plugging the Elite screen into a standard wall outlet or having it hardwired. With all the features of the Elite screen, such as the 2 year warranty, they’re a tremendous value.  The Spectrum is only available in a Black case while the Vmax is available in a Black projector screen case or White projector case.

So what’s a better deal? In some cases, lower price is a better value. However, when contemplating a projector screen purchase, it is usually better to do an apples to apples comparison. In this example, although the Vmax2 is a little more money you also have more control options  and case color options which make it a good value.
