The Difference Between Megaphones and Bullhorns

What actually differentiates a megaphone from a bullhorn? When asked, “What’s a megaphone”, some people think of the device with the pistol-like grip used for controlling crowds. On the other hand, when asked, “What’s a bullhorn”, some people think of the funnel-shaped instrument mainly used by cheerleaders. Other people simply don’t think there’s difference at all. Actually, they’re not wrong at all. It’s virtually impossible to distinguish the bullhorns from megaphones.

Both devices are portable and primarily used to amplify human voice. The devices used by cheerleaders are usually non-powered plastic cones. However, the electric-powered  megaphones (like the one in the picture) can project a voice up to 1/2 mile distance with exceptional clarity.
